Part of the beauty of falling in love with you is
the fear you won't fall.

April 09, 2009 - 06:55 pm - Blow me
TSwift
My music professor was teaching us about instrument classifications. One of the categories is called aerophones, for instruments that require air to cause vibration and thereby sounds.

He asked a student if he could have her empty water bottle so he could demonstrate on making it an aerophone.

He blew, but nothing was really happening. He then says to our class TA: "Tony, you try. Tony's good at blowing hard."

At that moment, the predominantly sleepy class woke up and laughed so loud. I don't think Tony or my professor got it and probably just thought they were funny.

Haha I love random class moments.

I enjoy my dance and music classes. I get what I'm doing in those classes. I'm one of the annoying kids who answers questions during class in my music lecture. We were analyzing Irish music today and there was this excerpt of two violins/fiddles playing and my professor asked how you could tell there were two, so I raised up my hand and said something about tone quality being different due to maybe different woods used for the instrument or the bow. Rofl.

I kind of did that during ballet barre when Stuart was talking about how legs are doing the technique and the arms are doing the expressions. He made fun of me and said we're going to get along so well. LOVE that class. He calls me YouTube dancer now because I told him that's how I learned how to do tricks.

Your butt is sticking out!"

Also mein Kopf schmerzt und ich kann nicht mehr schreiben. Bis später.
April 03, 2009 - 08:08 pm - Can I rub your derivative?
Joe and Demi
I had an Australian substitute for calculus today, and when he asked if he could erase something on the board, he would be, "Can I rub this off?" The entire class would look at him with a blank stare. I realized that rub is short for rubber which is like British/Australian for eraser, but I couldn't help but think about the dirty connotations of "rubbing." Even the guy behind me, who I overheard is married, was like, "That sounds hecka dirty."

I sat in the front row again. Woot.

I just got back from ballet today -- beginning ballet, to be exact. It wasn't really beginning; our instructor clearly stated during the introduction that it wasn't an Introduction to Ballet for the Absolute Beginner.

We danced for the second hour, just barre exercises, and it was a nice refresher for my ballet-hungry legs.

In a dance class, for me at least, I always find one person to "stick" with throughout the class. I convinced my friend Sara to take the class with me, so it's cool to dance with her, except the fact that she's a professional from the Anaheim Ballet and makes everyone look bad. (We aren't in the int/adv class because it conflicts with our core classes)

I feel like these updates are proof that I go to class. :) Still on track on the second day; life is good. Music and physics lab to come.

Physics?
March 30, 2009 - 01:15 pm - First day of spring quarter
TSwift
So I'm sitting here at the Silo watching other people nom nom on their burgers and I'm getting hungry. I went to physics and programming already and have calculus in about an hour.

Just some quotes that intrigued me today.

In physics:
Professor: Physics is like playing the violin. You don't just read a book on how to play the violin. It takes practice.
Sweet, I completely understood that analogy. I also didn't fall asleep, so far so good.

In programming:
Professor: Does anyone know how to connect to the Internet? ... This is not good.
LOLZ, like realliez.

My programming prof has a crazy Indian accent and half the time I'm just trying to debrief what the hell he's saying. It took me seriously like a minute to figure out that curry paf was career path and vickle was vehicle. He's quite funny though, telling us not to fuck with the Wiki Page for the course. laaaaaatiiiiiika There's also no wireless in that lecture hall and those seats in Giedt are super comfy, which means I will definitely fall asleep later in the quarter.

Oh, and Demi says hi.

I opened up Photoshop and decided I needed a new wallpaper.

(resized and cropped)

I made a piano out of Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin lyrics. That text formatting took 2 hours haha, but now my desktop and Christine's puny desktop share the same wallpaper.

I will start my reading for MUS11 later tonight. I am dead serious about getting on top of my game.
